Honoring the Legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda
In a significant tribute to India's tribal heritage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jamui, Bihar, on November 15th to commemorate Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. This day marks the beginning of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Dharti Aaba, Bhagwan Birsa Munda, a revered tribal leader and freedom fighter. The Prime Minister will unveil a commemorative coin and postal stamp honoring Bhagwan Birsa Munda at around 11 AM, further cementing his contributions in India's cultural and historical landscape.
Empowering Tribal Communities with Development Projects
During the visit, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a series of transformative projects totaling over ₹6,640 crore. These initiatives aim to uplift tribal communities and improve infrastructure in remote and rural areas. Among the key projects, the Prime Minister will participate in the "Grih Pravesh" ceremony, symbolizing the completion of 11,000 houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN).
Healthcare and Education Boosts for Tribal Areas
To enhance healthcare access in tribal regions, the Prime Minister will inaugurate 23 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) under PM-JANMAN and an additional 30 MMUs under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA). These units are aimed at bridging healthcare gaps in tribal areas, bringing essential medical services closer to communities.
Education is another priority, with plans to inaugurate 10 Eklavya Model Residential Schools dedicated to tribal students, worth approximately ₹450 crore. The government will also lay the foundation for 25 more Eklavya Schools and 100 Multi-Purpose Centres (MPCs), which will serve as community hubs in tribal regions, promoting accessibility to quality education for tribal children.
Preserving Tribal History and Heritage
The government is committed to preserving the rich history of India’s tribal communities. The Prime Minister will inaugurate two Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museums in Chhindwara and Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, as well as two Tribal Research Institutes in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, and Gangtok, Sikkim. These institutions will celebrate tribal culture and document the invaluable contributions of tribal leaders to India’s independence and heritage.
Promoting Tribal Entrepreneurship and Livelihoods
The Prime Minister’s agenda also includes promoting economic empowerment within tribal communities. He will inaugurate 300 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) to support tribal entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood generation. With additional funding under DAJGUA, these initiatives are set to encourage self-reliance and skill development among tribal populations.
Expanding Infrastructure and Combatting Health Issues
To improve connectivity in tribal areas, the government will lay the foundation for 500 km of new roads. Additional development projects include constructing 25,000 homes under PM-JANMAN, 1.16 lakh new houses under DAJGUA, 66 hostels under PM-JANMAN, and 304 hostels under DAJGUA.
Health concerns, such as Sickle Cell Anaemia, also receive attention, with the establishment of 6 Centres of Competency for the disease’s elimination, alongside other hostels and schools designed to support the unique needs of the tribal population.
